Clothes in a woman’s movie
On October 1, 2021 by Emma CollymoreIf you haven’t seen the film “Women” yet, run around, don’t go to the local theater and don’t go for a DVD. The film, released in the fall of 2008 and on DVD in December 2008, is a remake of the 1939 film in which Norma Shearer and Joan Crawford starred as “another woman.” The film stars many stars, including Annette Bening, Meg Ryan, Debra Messing, Jada Pinkett Smith and Beth Middler.
Like the 1939 version of the film, based on a play written by Claire Booth Luce, the film focuses on one woman, Mary and her feline girlfriends, who, after discovering that her husband has an affair, take turns rejoicing and sympathetic. In the original film, all the women were secular people who usually met for lunch at restaurants on Park Avenue and at the spa. In the 2008 version of “Women”, directed by Diana English, women are more modern and have a career in fashion – making the film one of the most inspiring fashion films of 2008.
Look for clothes from this movie to take it off in real life. Whether it’s the gentle East Coast look of Meg Ryan’s character, the eye-catching look of Eva Mendes ’character, the sharp cheeky look of Judy Pinkett Smith’s character or the bohemian style of Debra Messing’s character, you’re sure to find some inspiration in women’s fashion movies.
The costume designer of “Women” in the 2008 version – John A. Dunn. He has worked on films such as “I’m Not”, “Accelerated Way” and others. The preconditions of both films are about the same and, like the black and white version of “Women” in 1939, which had a color sequence with a fashion show, the 2008 version also shows a fashion show. Those who liked George Kukor’s 1939 film should also like the 2008 version.
